When it comes to creating sounds I'm still very much an amateur, but I understand the basics of synthesis much more now than I ever thought I would (even though half the time I'm still randomly turning knobs in a "what will this do" sort of exploratory way, lol).Omnisphere 2.6 - Endless PossibilitiesOmnisphere® is the flagship synthesizer of Spectrasonics - an instrument of extraordinary power and versatility. I had so much fun making sounds and incorporating them into my productions that a couple years later I grabbed Omnisphere 1 to have a "sample based" synth and it's definitely an inspiration machine! No way would I describe it as too expensive for what it is, it's been such a joy to learn. Grabbed Zebra (and the HZ version.the amount you can learn from deconstructing the patches vast!) and Diva.

He was talking about the Batman Begins score and mentioned Zebra be all over the place so that lead me to Uhe. Not long after than I caught the synth bug and that is pretty much HZs fault. So I bought a piano and playing that every day definitely helped get the fingers moving. The problem with catching the sample bug is that it clearly means having to become semi competent with a keyboard unless you want to draw every damn note (and sometimes I still have to resort to that). It wasn't long after I morphed from live/session guitar playing to building my own studio that I caught the sample bug.

Also, when I was a kid they constantly played that movie Nerds and I always equated synth music to that talent show scene (or whatever that was). As a guitarist, I didn't give any thought/respect to synth and keyboard players for synth and keyboarders didn't get the girls. I'm still on Omni 1, but I think it's fantastic. Matt has a great way of making Omni shine (he also has some good Zebra sets too. His walkthrough videos go through all the patches, so watch them to find the sounds you want before purchasing. But I see now there are a few new ones that get more expensive. Discount is shown once in cart.Īs far as the unfinished I really like the Omni Horizon series.

Still deciding if I want to upgrade to Omni 2 for another $249, but I doubt I'll regret that either (more presets, bigger interface, add custom samples - Yes!).Ĭheck JRR shop (If not in CA) or Audio Deluxe (If not in MI) for an extra discount in cart (if you are in the same state they will charge sales tax, which almost negates the discount), both have free shipping in USA. But Omni 1 came with 8,000 presets and I feel was well worth the asking price. The Unfinished just takes the sound a bit further and gives you great starting points to tweak further if needed (not that it's needed, great stuff).

Eric even adding info pages that tell you a lot about each patch and it's background (can you say that of Zebra?).

The Omnisphere engine has a very smooth and professional quality, and I haven't found one that is as well designed and laid out. Omnishpere for me has been a great experience, especially once I started diving into The unfinished presets, which can be on sale for under $20. Anyone who's owned both (and studied the hell out of them) knows that. So, I'll concede your point as far as presets, but if you were referring to modulation capabilities, you're incorrect. Now, if you're talking about having a preset synth, sure Omnisphere has a ton more presets (the majority of which sound a lot alike, ask anyone whom is past the honeymoon with that synth, or isn't trying to justify the expense as stridently as possible).

I already owned that synth and know that for a fact. Omnisphere has very little from a modulation perspective you can't do with Zebra (besides importing and exporting waveforms, which you can do with a free add-on program, and that feature will most certainly be onboard in the upcoming Zebra 3). The burning vocals and African pianos can all be found in mini-libraries for a fraction of the price (many featuring modulation options). It's not the overall amount of content, it's the content and features you can actually use.
